Johannes Vermeer

1632-1675

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was a renowned Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. Born in Delft, Netherlands, Vermeer was trained by his father, a painter and art dealer, and later studied under the tutelage of Carel Fabritius.

He is considered one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age, known for his masterful use of light and his ability to capture the quiet intimacy of everyday life.

Vermeer's works are characterized by their serene and harmonious compositions, as well as their use of subtle color and texture. Despite his relatively small output, Vermeer's paintings have had a profound influence on the development of Western art, and he is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of all time.
